English 2
Olympia High School Course Description:

English 2 is a required course that must be completed before a student graduates. Reading, writing, and speaking are components of this class with a heavy emphasis on speaking; the class is directly linked to the new Illinois Learning Standards. Assignments will focus on critical analysis, expository, and argumentative style and will include a research paper. The literature will include non-fiction, drama, selected novels, and essays and will serve as a survey of literature course. Pieces students will read include a variety of short stories, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, and Hamlet by Shakespeare. The speech component will incorporate several informal speeches as well as work with listening skills.
